But I'm sure you've heard more than your fill of New Year's resolutions and goals.

This isn't about that.

Instead, let's talk about the ongoing goals of your center. These don't change with the turn of the year. You're always on the hunt to save money where you can and maximize the efficiency of your equipment. And each day presents a new challenge—a maintenance issue, a change in fuel costs, or a staffing problem. You're not working year to year; you're working day to day.

When you're working day to day, you don't need immediate results, but they're nice to have. Using a liquid pool cover, like Heatsavr, will provide you with those results. And it won't take a day to install. Not even half a day. You can install an automated Heatsavr system in about an hour.

What happens after that? Savings. Heatsavr spreads over the pool automatically within minutes. Afterward, you'll save up to 35% on your pool heating costs and reduce up to 50% of evaporation. And those savings will start to kick in the day you apply Heatsavr for the first time.

Think about it: in one day, you could change the future of your pool forever. Not just for the month, not just for the year—indefinitely.

It was probably because it was such an action-packed year. After a year like that, who can tell what 2017 will bring? It's exciting, isn't it?

Let's talk about what 2017 has in store for your aquatics facility. There are only a couple weeks left in December, which might seem like a lot, but for me that's going to be the blink of an eye. I would wager you'll have a similar experience.

So what are some of your 2017 goals? Reducing your energy costs? Cutting down on your water usage? Making your facility a bit more green? What if you could accomplish all of those goals with only one product?

Yep, that sounds unrealistic. I know. But customers all over the world who have used Heatsavr, our patented liquid pool cover, have experienced exactly those kind of results. They've reduced their pool heating costs by up to 35%. They've slashed their water loss in half. They've committed to a greener aquatic ideology, and Heatsavr has helped them get there.

It's never too early to start thinking about the future, but right now is a perfect time. In a couple weeks the wheel of the year will make its lumbering turn to back to the start, and what better time to start fresh?

Take some time to think about what Heatsavr can do for you and your aquatic facility goals. Check out our testimonials. You've probably got programming in place to help your swimmers tone their midsections, enhance their endurance, and increase their flexibility. And there are lots of people who use your pool for those specific reasons.

Here's another win for team aquafit—new research has concluded that individuals who have had a stroke can experience benefits from exercising in the water. In fact, there is evidence that water-based exercise might be more beneficial for stroke survivors than land-based exercise.

That's huge news. Nearly 800,000 people in the United States suffer from a stroke each year, and helping those survivors regain mobility, strengthen their bodies, and improve their quality of life is vital.

This is just another reason why aquatics facilities are the best. The list of potential pool activities and benefits grows longer each and every day, making it more and more evident just how much enrichment one can gain from a pool.

But pools come with their fair share of frustrations. One of them? They're expensive.

Just because running a pool is expensive, though, doesn't mean it can't still be a little cheaper. By adding Heatsavr, our patented liquid pool cover, to your pool, you can expect to save up to 40% on your pool heating costs. Heatsavr helps trap heat in your pool. When your water temperature is more stable, your pool heater doesn't have to work as hard—and your energy bill will thank you.

A product that can help your facility save money? Pool win. Helping stroke victims improve their quality of life? That's a huge pool win.

They provide shelter from the elements, can be used at all times of the day and night, and aren't affected by drops in air temperature. But indoor pools do have to contend with a different set of issues. One of the most frustrating ones?

Humidity.

An outdoor pool utilizes Earth's natural air conditioning to redistribute the moisture wicked away by evaporation. For an indoor pool, it's more complicated. There are lots of solutions available for indoor pool operators looking to pull moisture back out of the air. But there's also an even simpler solution you might not have thought of.

Humidity is caused by evaporation, right? So why not just stop that evaporation?

Heatsavr does just that. By forming a one-molecule thick layer on the surface of the water, it prevents up to 50% of evaporation at the source. In doing so, it lessens humidity—but also prevents heat loss.

Who knew that a reduction in heating costs could be paired with a reduction in humidity? That's a win-win if I've ever seen one.

Imagine a more comfortable pool environment and a lower heating bill. With those kinds of benefits, your indoor pool will leave its outdoor competition in the dust!

What do they eat before a race or a game? What kinds of recovery exercise do they do? How many hours of sleep do they get on a night?

Unlike what you might be thinking, this fascination has less to do with stalking and more to do trying to understand how the world's fittest people prime themselves for maximum efficiency. That isn't to say I'm going to start getting up at five a.m. to run five miles before work just because a world champion soccer player does. That sounds like a nightmare. All the same, though, it's an interesting nightmare. The culmination of all those healthy habits—however extreme they may be—is a human being at the peak of their ability. That's fascinating.

Operating at maximum efficiency is a challenge for everyone and everything. It never comes without sacrifice. For a person, it means hard work and restraint. For a machine, it means frequent maintenance and expert engineering.

What does a swimming pool need to achieve maximum efficiency?

The answer to this question is most likely: what doesn't one need? You undoubtedly do all you can and a little bit more to keep your energy costs down, your water use low, and your swimmers happy. But what if there was one more thing you could use to prime your pool for its performance peak?

Using a liquid pool cover in your pool will help you achieve your performance goals. By inhibiting evaporation, Heatsavr prevents up to 35% of heat loss and 50% of water loss. That means it will be cheaper to heat your pool, but also that there will be less humidity in the air and thus better air quality.

How's that for ramping up your efficiency? And you won't have to make a big sacrifice. Not only is the application method easy as pie, but you'll actually end up saving money. That's much easier to swallow than a five a.m. run. If only they made Heatsavr for people.

Swimming pools are great luxuries to have and there’s a lot of reasons to own one. However, many consider pools to be a “waste of water” - especially in California where we are currently in a drought.

While I don’t necessarily agree with this sentiment I do think it is important for ALL pool owners to take the necessary steps to reduce their impact on the environment. Here, we’ve detailed a number of things you can do to be more environmentally conscious. Some are easy to do and some require a little more work.

We’ve ordered these from easiest to implement to hardest (you’ll see the easiest ways first). Hopefully, you’ll decide to implement at least a few of these.

1. Pool Covers

Utilizing a pool cover is one of the easiest ways to reducing the impact your pool has on the environment. Although using a pool cover is not exactly life changing, it’s easy to implement and will definitely cut down not only on your impact, but your spending.

In a nutshell, pool covers reduce evaporation by helping to block sun and trap moisture. Not only does this reduce the amount of water you need to refill your pool with by 35-50%, but also chemical usage. If helping the environment isn’t reason enough they tend to be great investments - often saving hundreds of dollars over the course of several years.

There are 2 kinds of pool covers:

Traditional Pool Covers

Traditional pool covers are essentially sheets made from synthesized materials such as polyethylene, polypropylene, or vinyl. This plastic-like blanket sits on top of your pool which will reduce the exposure of your pool to the elements, thus reducing evaporation.

They require a little bit of time to take on and off, but can save a lot of money in the long run. Additionally, they are also great for preventing debris from coming into your pool so you save time cleaning!

Typically, the cheap covers tend to be mediocre and a waste of money. With that in mind, you can check out this pool cover buying guide for advice on how to buy the right pool cover of this type for your pool.

Liquid Pool Covers

Liquid Pool Covers such as HeatSavr and EcoSaver are a newer type of pool cover that work similarly. However, instead of being physical sheets it is instead dispersed from a bottle. You add the solution to your pool and the solution will form a thin layer on top of your pool, reducing evaporation and chlorine loss.

Liquid Pool Covers are great alternatives to traditional pool covers. Although they don’t protect your pool from debris, they are very easy use and require very little effort!

2. Install LED Pool Lights

Like all lights, pool lights also consume electricity. An easy win to getting your pool a little greener is by switching your pool lights to LED pool lights. They not only cut electricity costs, but because they last 5x-6x longer than average pool lights, it also reduces the lights and materials that go to the waste!

3. Automatic Pool Cleaners

Automatic pool cleaners are great for a variety of reasons. Not only do they save you time in your pool maintenance endeavors, but they actually reduce the amount of electricity and energy you use, making these very eco friendly. A classic example of an automatic pool cleaner is the game changing Kreepy Krauly.

Although these consume some electricity as well, they ultimately result in using much less. This is because they require very little electricity compared to pool pumps and the other pool systems that clean your pool.

By using a pool cleaner you make these more electricity expensive units work less hard, ultimately making your whole pool system require less resources. Pressure pool cleaners are actually the greenest of the options, since they don’t use any extra electricity and still help clean your pool!

4. Variable Speed Pool Pumps

Pool pumps are part of your external pool system and work to keep the water of your pool clean. They help move water through to your pool filter get rid of bacteria and debris in your pool.

Older pool pumps run all day and tend to use up a LOT of electricity. It’s a waste because pool pumps only need to be ran for a fraction of the day.

Variable speed pool pumps are great alternatives, and use up as low as 10% of electricity as traditional single or two speed pool pumps since they are timed instead of running 24/7.
However, there are more energy efficient one and two speed pumps available as well - they’re just not as good.

Be sure to double check what pool pump you are using. You don’t necessarily need a variable pool pump since they can be pricey, so at least consider greener, energy efficient one or two speed pumps to reduce your environmental impact.

5. Natural Pools

I saved the best (and hardest to implement) for last. Natural pools are types of swimming pools that rely on natural systems to keep your pool clean.

Traditional pools use a lot of chemicals, mostly chlorine, to keep the pool sanitary and get rid of bacteria. Instead, natural pools utilize natural systems such as various plants to filter the water and keep it clean.

These are a tons of health benefits in addition to the environmental ones, but as far as this article is concerned this will cut your pool’s electricity and chemical usage down to 0.

You’ll still need to do some pool maintenance such as scrubbing the walls, steps, and perhaps vacuuming the floor, but natural pools are great alternatives to traditional chlorine pools and will truly minimize your environmental impact.

Conclusion

It is everyone’s responsibility to do their best in being environmentally conscious. In this article we’ve outlined a lot of ways to make your pool greener. While some of them can be difficult and/or expensive, the first couple of methods are easy to implement, cheap, and will definitely save you money in the long run.

Taking steps to reduce water, chemical, or energy usage all have a positive impact on the environment. Do your part and help us save the Earth one pool at a time!

About the Author
What's the scariest thing in your pool? Is it the shark that lives in the deep end? The ghost in the whirlpool? What about the swamp thing in the filtration system?

Your supernatural swimmers might be scary, but the phantom with the highest fright factor is the one stealing your pool's heat—and it doesn't just come around once a year. Every day, every second, moisture and heat from your pool is being sucked up into thin air. And, unlike the skeleton that works in the snack bar, evaporation is just a nuisance.

Using a liquid pool cover will help. Heatsavr reduces up to 50% of your pool's evaporation by creating a one molecule-thick layer on the surface of the water, thus ensuring the water and heat stay where they belong. It has been proven to reduce up to 35% of pool heating costs, which is good for your wallet, the environment, and the hydra nesting in your heater.

And the best part? Heatsavr is odorless, tasteless, and colorless. It's completely safe and biodegradable, and once it's in the pool, nobody will know it's there. Not even the super sensitive vampire training for the 2096 Olympics.

The one and only thing your swimmers might notice? The improvement in air quality. Less water in the air also means less humidity, and that's a benefit everyone will enjoy.

Scared of change? Aren't we all sometimes. But this is a change you won't regret—and a product you won't ever want to be without.
It's a rush of decorating, re-decorating, re-re-decorating, and lots and lots of cleaning. I think we can all agree this season errs on the side of stressful.

I bet your center has a lot scheduled this fall. With so many dates, events, and tasks, you're likely up to your neck with work and stressed to the nines. The last thing you need is to start using a new product in your pool, right? Well...maybe not. Would you agree that you're never too busy to save a little money? What about a lot of money? Using Heatsavr, our patented liquid pool cover product, can save your facility up to 35% on its pool heating costs. That kind of money won't allow you to pack up for an extended vacation, but it will give you a little more flexibility to host fun events or buy staff incentives.

But what about the hassle of adding Heatsavr to your pool care routine? Even if you're not a control freak, I'm sure you can agree that it's nice to have a handle on things. Being able to turn up the thermostat on a chilly day is nice. Substituting an ingredient you do want for an ingredient you don't want in a recipe, or out at a restaurant, is nice. Getting to choose the colour of your new car is nice.

You know what isn't nice? The things you can't control. Topping my list is the passing of time, but there are plenty of other things I wish I had a say in: the weather, traffic, the early morning roadwork outside my apartment... The list goes on.

What's on your list? Think about the things you wished you could control better at your facility. Is evaporation one of them? Evaporation is the scientific process that's zapping up more of your water and energy than perhaps you realize. Up to 70% of your pool's heat is lost through evaporation, and every degree lost must be made up by your pool's heater to keep the water at a temperate, swimmable level.

But what can you do, right? It's evaporation. It's nature. Except—hang on a minute—there is something you can do! By using a liquid pool cover, you can stop up to 50% of your pool's evaporative water loss. That translates into saving up to 40% of your pool heating costs, and I doubt that's a small bit of change.

You might think that circumventing such an established ecological process would take more effort than it's worth, but it doesn't. Not in this case. Heatsavr can be added manually to your pool with ease, or can be hooked up to an automatic metering system.

Being in control is nice. The modern world is chok-a-blok full of options: colors, styles, materials, manufacturers. Each choice we make on a daily basis has the potential to go any number of ways and the days when only one or two brands produced one thing are long gone.

This isn't always a good thing. Isn't it frustrating sometimes when you go to the store to pick up one thing, and you're presented with six identical looking products? I'm really bad for this. I go grocery shopping alone whenever possible because I tend to annoy people with how thorough I am when choosing between products. I've been known to pick up each package of apple sauce, cereal, tomato sauce—or whatever I'm looking for—and read everything I can from the label. If I can't make a decision after that, I'll Google it. In the end, I'm never really sure if it makes a difference.

But here's one thing you should be picky about: your liquid pool cover product. Why? There are tons on the market, and they all apparently do the same thing. Why not just grab whichever is easiest?

Because only one liquid pool cover has been tried, tested, and proven to be the best product on the market. Incidentally, it was also the first on the market. I'm talking, of course, about Heatsavr.

If you haven't even gotten to the stage yet where you're comparing the weight and feel of different liquid pool cover products, I highly recommend you do. A simple application process will leave your pool covered twenty-four hours a day, contributing to energy savings of up to forty percent. Your indoor pool area will be less humid and you'll lose less water overall to evaporation. I could save you time by telling you not to bother checking out the competition, but if you're anything like me you'll need to do some investigation on your own. In fact, I recommend it!

Let me help you with that research. Email me today and I can provide all the information you need to make a balanced decision about covering your pool. Over the past 20+ years, we've collected dozens of testimonials and performed numerous tests and trials. As for our competition? Not so much.

But don't look at these as negatives. Let's look at them as the opportunities they are! Shorter days and chillier weather mean families will be looking for indoor activities, and your bright and welcoming facility will be a pleasing contrast from the bare, frosted trees outside.

Make sure your facility is up to snuff for the coming indoor season so that you can best serve your customers. You already know all the maintenance that needs to be done—you don't need me to tell you that. But have you considered a liquid pool cover?

I get it. Adding something else to your pool care routine isn't the most tempting prospect. But by adding Heatsavr, our patented liquid pool cover, you can expect to save money, reduce pesky humidity, and reduce your carbon footprint. By covering the pool in a one molecule thick layer of our environmentally friendly active ingredient, you will lose less water and heat to the air. This, in turn, will lower your energy and water consumption and make the pool environment more pleasant.

Drought has been a real issue this year, as you well know. Using a liquid pool cover is one of many changes you can make to your facility to help the environment. It's one of the only changes that will come with such an array of positive side effects!

Outdoor pool season is coming to a close. It's a sad reality that we have to face each year, but one that isn't without its share of opportunities—for both indoor and outdoor pool operators.

Outdoor pools get the chance each year to go out with a bang. It could be something as simple as hosting a pre-closing pool party or a special early morning polar bear swim. Or you can do what this New Concord pool did and open up the pool to dogs for one special weekend. This isn't just about getting a last push for traffic, however. These kinds of events will keep your pool anchored in the minds of all your swimmers, and even those who didn't come out this summer, long into the dark days of winter.

But indoor pools can capitalize on the season change as well. Why not welcome all those who swam at outdoor pools over the summer into your temperature-controlled environment with a fall special? Maybe you could host a pool party of your own. I'm sure that there would be a few kids and parents grateful for a back to school pick me up to help ease back into the school spirit.

There's no reason that the fun and playful tone of summer has to disappear entirely just because our part of the Earth is tilting a little bit further from the sun. Just like there's no reason you have to deal with heat loss in your pool just because that's how evaporation works.

By using Heatsavr on either your indoor or outdoor pool, you can expect to save up to 50% of your pool's heat loss and water loss. Less water lost means less humidity in the air and less time spent filling up the pool. Less heat lost means less money and energy spent heating your pool.

Just because the season changes doesn't mean the party's over. And just because evaporation's got you down, doesn't mean Heatsavr can't make your savings add up.

So—did you solve it before the organizers?

While it's unlikely that you would have guessed hydrogen peroxide, you probably figured something was off with their pool's chemistry. And I bet you work pretty hard to prevent anything similar from happening to your pool. Your swimmers may not be Olympic athletes, but you keep the pool up to snuff for them as if they were.

That being said, adding anything new to your pool is scary. If your pool turned green, you wouldn't get social media backlash to the extent that the Rio organizers did—but there would be a response. And it wouldn't be good. So why take any chances?

There's a common misconception that adding Heatsavr, our patented liquid solar cover, to your pool can affect your pool's chemistry. That's simply not true. While it will be busy keeping the heat in your pool, and lowering your pool's heating bill by up to 40%, Heatsavr won't so much as exchange greetings with any of the chemical agents in the water. That's a whole lot of benefit for no awkward green side effects.

You might not be at the Olympics this year, but you can still save money like a champion!

Time has a way of sneaking up on you. One moment you're happily browsing through your local rec center's spring/summer programming guide, thinking about the long and warm days ahead of you, and the next it's August, and the final days of summer extend only as far as a few short leaps on the calendar.

I know that it's only the second week of August, and that there's still lots of time for lazy days at the lake and lemonade on the porch. But in many places, including my own city, it's starting to cool down. For many reasons that's great. Fewer forest fires. The oncoming fall, when cozy sweaters and hot chocolate will fill in the hole that Summer's coconut sunscreen and blooming gardens left behind.

But for pool owners, the end of summer means something else: the end of pool season.
I have some good news for you, something that will help you extend your pool season and keep the last vestiges of the summer's heat in your pool: Heatsavr.

You may have heard before that Heatsavr will help prevent up to 50% of your pool's evaporation, and thus up to 50% of your pool's heat loss. But seeing those numbers and understanding how they will affect your pool are two different things.

Let's say you have an average heat loss of 6 degrees each night, but that's fine because in the summer your pool gains back that 6 degrees during the day, plus or minus a degree here and there. As summer wanes and less heat makes it into your pool during the day, that overnight heat loss will begin to add up.

If you're only losing 3-4 degrees per night, however, and you're also able to retain more heat during the day, then your pool will stay at a swimmable temperature longer. And all you have to do is add a little liquid to your pool once or twice a week!

If there were an option for me to buy a product that would magically extend the summer, I would. And maybe they'll create one someday. But for now, the closet you can get to that is Heatsavr. Summer will ends when it ends, but with Heatsavr you can keep swimming as long as possible.

Floating in my pool while a nearby speaker hums Weezer's "Island in the Sun." These are undoubtedly the finer things in life.

You can't be lazy for all of the summer, though. I get that. There are certain tasks that must be undertaken in order to reach these chill ideals. Work must be finished before naps. Sunscreen must be applied. Iced coffees must be made. And, most importantly, pools must be maintained. And maintaining a pool, as you know, is no walk in the park. Balancing chemicals, checking water temperature, and scooping out debris are exhausting tasks. They're necessary though, so we do them. But dragging a pool blanket on and off your pool? That's extra hard work that you can go without.

Don't get me wrong—you should definitely cover your pool. Evaporation accounts for around seventy percent of temperature loss in pools, and only covering your pool can help slow that down. But you don't need to use a plastic pool cover. Instead, get a little lazy—use a liquid pool cover.

Being lazy is often a bad thing. After all, Rome was not built by sloths. But when you can take the easier route in life and not see negative side effects? That's great. When you get positive results in return? And, for you light labor, you will be rewarded by a reduction in your water and heat loss of up to fifty percent! Saving water and heat also means saving money—so that makes these lazy savings threefold!

In a world where if things seem too good (or too easy) to be true they probably are, Heatsavr is an option you can trust.

Even if you aren't, I'm sure you've heard enough from your friends and family about the game to have a feel for the basics. If not, here's a one sentence recap: Pokemon are everywhere and people are flocking to catch them.

I read a great article last week about using Pokemon Go to attract people to your business. I highly recommend you read it, as it has real world examples of people who have capitalized on this trend to bring traffic and a bit of extra fun to their business. Most of these ideas involve finding out if there's a Pokestop near your business, then dropping lures there to attract wild Pokemon and people. If there's a Pokemon gym, you can put up a leader board and offer discounts for trainers who are part of the team that currently controls the gym.

But how can these ideas be best utilized for a pool? After all, it's no secret that smart phones and water don't mix. The first thing to do is to download Pokemon Go and see if your facility is nearby any Pokestops or gyms. If it is, consider advertising that on social media. The article I mentioned has lots of examples of how to use your lucky location to your advantage.

If your facility isn't close to a Pokestop or gym, there are still ways to get involved. You can advertise any rare Pokemon that your customers have caught on your grounds, or announce a discount for anyone who has the "Pokemon of the day." Set up a couple power strips around your snack bar and it could be a haven for players—and Pokemon training is hungry work!

Don't be afraid to get creative! There are dozens of ways to market this craze, and what works for one business may not work for another. At the end of the day, though, you're sure to have fun!

A pumpkin pie brings images of turkey and football. Wood smoke drifting in on the breeze could be a campfire by the beach, or the burning effigy of a rival sports team at a pep rally.

I believe that sounds, while perhaps not as potent, are just as capable of reminding people of things. And a particularly powerful sound is the splashing of water. Generally this can conjure up one of two moods: relaxation or anxiety over waste.

Of course it's relaxing to hear a babbling brook, or the tide beating the shore. But when you're hearing a lot of splashing from your pool, it can mean another thing entirely. More water movement generally means more waste. Even your water feature, which in its design is meant to sound relaxing, probably also stresses you out sometimes. Why? Because aerating the water leads to more evaporation.

Perhaps you can't combat all the forces that are at work relieving your pool of water, but there's an extraordinarily easy way to prevent up to 50% of its evaporation—cover it with a liquid pool cover.

Heatsavr, our patented liquid solar cover product, will help you cut down on your pool's water loss without any fuss. Though it's sunny most days for at least an hour or two, there's been just enough rain and wind to make it impossible to decide on an appropriate outfit before leaving the house.

You can leave in a t-shirt and shorts if you're feeling brave, but in a couple of hours you'll likely end up shivering. Likewise, jeans and a sweater is fine until you go outside during one of the sunny breaks and end up baking.

Summer should not be this complicated. The only temperature anyone should have to put this much thought into regulating in the summer is their pool's.

If your summer has started out as pitifully as mine, you're probably having trouble getting your pool's temperature up to a good, swimmable level. Luckily it's easier to keep your pool a comfortable temperature than it is to keep you a comfortable temperature. By using a liquid pool cover, such as Heatsavr, you can expect to save up to 50% of your pool's overnight heat loss, and up to 35% of its heating bill. If your pool is unheated, Heatsavr will help seal in each degree of warmth added by the sun's rays, thus steadily bringing up the temperature each day.

If you're having great summer weather already, you'll still see great results with Heatsavr, saving both water and heat loss. And I envy you. The only thing that should be sporting a blanket this time of year is your pool.

"To see is to believe."

There are dozens of quotes out there like the ones above, all with a common theme—visual proof is a vital component of any claim. I'm sure there are plenty of cases where visual proof isn't necessary to believe something, but doesn't it just make you feel better? Someone could talk until the cows come home about how well a certain cleaning product works, or how good the latest James Bond movie is, but until I see it for myself I'm a non-apologetic skeptic.

In that vein, you've likely read a least a little about Heatsavr, our patented liquid pool cover product. You may even be aware that it will save you up to 35% of your pool's heating costs, or that we have stacks of happy customers who wholeheartedly endorse it. But where's the visual? Well, if you try it on your own pool you'll undoubtedly be satisfied with the physical result there.

Until then, however, I urge you to check out our before and after page. In the photos there you can see how much evaporation is visibly inhibited by the spread of our product. The difference is both noticeable and immediate. Don't believe me? See for yourself!

Don't get me wrong; you shouldn't believe everything that you see. But when what you see is backed up by scientific evidence and customer testimonials? I think that deserves a look. Don't you?

So far it seems like getting anything reasonably priced means taking a nose dive in quality. Any option I bring up with him is either too cheap or not cheap enough.

And in the end, what will be the outcome of this exhausting search? A long stick and a piece to go on the end of it that will likely only work slightly better than the one he currently has.

I wish all pool supply shopping was as easy as shopping for a liquid pool cover. Sure, there are tons of brands to choose from—but there's only one that's definitively the best.

Only Heatsavr has been tried and tested time and time again and consistently provided exemplary results. Our website is loaded with testimonials and trial results, which is more than can be said for the other liquid pool covers on the market.

And you won't have to pay a ton extra for all this quality. As always, Heatsavr is an affordable option for covering your pool that will actually save you money. Quality, affordability, and savings? With that on the Heatsavr's menu, you won't find me touching any of the other brands with a twenty-foot pole. Which, by the way, is nearly an impossible thing to find.

After all, a non-heated pool isn't consuming loads of energy (and therefore money), so what is the appeal?

Here's the honest truth, my friends:

Liquid pool covers have been proven to reduce overnight heat loss by about 50%. This is a big deal if you are not heating your pool, because it will allow you to keep your water warmer, for a longer period of time.

Heatsavr and Ecosavr are able to retain that much heat because they protect your water against evaporation. During this process, as an added bonus, using our products will also lower the amount of water loss your pool experiences naturally. You won't have to refill your pool as often, which not only saves water by saves you work and reduces the amount of cold water you are forced to add to your pool!

As you can see, the benefits are extensive! I don't expect you to believe every word I say, however, so I've included a pretty impressive story from a long-time Heatsavr user. Just keep reading...

Where to Buy Liquid Pool Covers

I have a 16 x 32 outdoor pool that is shaded the better part of the day. With that much shade, even in the Oklahoma weather I needed to heat the pool, and subsequently decrease heat loss. Even in 100+ degree weather, my pool would only get 82f. We wanted the pool to be a tropical 85f. Sooooo… I bought a heat pump and installed it. With a wonderful temperature of 85f, the biggest issue was heat loss. At night I was losing 8+ degrees and my heater would run, even in the middle of July, to bring our pool back to desired temperature. I was a little cautious about buying a liquid pool cover, but I am too lazy to want to role a cover on and off. We decided to take the chance and bought the HeatSavr unit. Once installed, we saw an overnight change in heat loss! The maximum loss we have experienced now is 2 degrees and the heater never runs. This little unit has paid for itself in only 3 months calculating electric and water loss. Well worth the money.

After the purchase: I needed to contact customer service with some questions and a minor issue. Not only is customer service with HeatSaver very prompt and courteous, they have resolved or answered every question with me, the customer in mind. To be honest, I am not accustomed to being treated with this much respect and enthusiasm to resolve questions and issues.

I would highly recommend this unit and company to anyone tired of reeling off solar blankets, and who are interested in saving money! Great product, great service after the sale. Cannot ask for better.
After installing the system, all the pool owner / operator has to do is change the bottle when it gets empty, and a few simple annual maintenance tasks.

Installing and programming the system is quite easy, and we have actually filmed a video of the process so that you can see it for yourself. Watch that video here: HS115 Installation Video

Just like most equipment, especially items that have moving parts, the HS115 Automatic Metering System does require a bit of TLC to maintain in optimal running order. The few annual maintenance issues can usually be taken care of in less than half an hour. If you are considering installing one of these systems and want to know what kind of "work" will be required of you, or if you already have one installed, here are some of the most common care-taking tasks:

The LCD Screen

The little screen on the Automatic Metering System is where the time of day is displayed on the metering system. Many people use this screen as an indicator of whether or not the system is operating properly, but it doesn't tell the whole story. Even if that screen stops working, the metering system may still function properly!

The screen is actually powered by a coin battery, which is the more important piece of the puzzle. That coin battery holds the programming of the system in the case of a power outage, so that even if the pump loses power for a short period of time, you won't have to reprogram all the settings.

However, just like the battery in your watch, this coin battery will die after time. It is fairly simple and inexpensive to replace, luckily.

The battery that you will need is the CR2330 or the BR2330, and you can pick this up at most RadioShack locations for less than $10.

Once you have a battery, you will want to disconnect the power to your HS115 Metering system, and take the front plate off by removing the 4 screws. The first thing you will want to do is then tighten the 4 screws inside the front plate, as sometimes the battery is not actually dead, but the connections are just a bit loose. If this fixes your problem, GREAT! If not, simply locate the coin battery, pop it out and replace it with your new one. The put the pump back together and the screen should work just fine.

You will have to reprogram your system now, but that is quite simple as well. You can find the programming directions on Page 7 of our Installation Manual: HS115 Installation and Programming Manual.

The Flex Tube

The HS115 is a peristaltic pump, which basically means there is a roller assembly that rotates, creating pressure around a flexible tube. As the pressure moves from one side of the tube to the other, the liquid also moves. This is how the liquid pool cover gets pulled from the bottle of Heatsavr and pushed through to the main return line.

Because of the daily rotation, the Flex Tube inside the roller assembly will get squished over time. This restricts the volume of liquid that can move through the tube, and for that reason, the tube should be replaced annually.

Each installation kit that comes with the metering system has 2 Flex Tubes, and for subsequent years, you can order replacements for as little as about $12.

To replace the tube, all you have to do is press and turn the two black screws on the front of the pump, which will release the roller assembly. Loosen the small screw on the back, and remove the cover. The tube should pop out of the front cartridge easily, and will also remove the two white nuts attached to the tube. To put your new Flex Tube in, coat is first with the lubricant that is included, as this will help extend the life of the new tube. Then reverse your steps to put the roller assembly back together: snap in the flex tube, screw the cover back on, place the roller assembly back on the front of the pump and press and turn the two black nuts to secure it in place.

Did I miss something?

If you have any questions that weren't covered here, please feel welcome to get in touch with me directly and I will be more than happy to help!
Set it and Forget it Pool Care Solution

There are a lot of advantages to living in a top-floor apartment. First of all, I don't hear any noises from above me unless it's raining or hailing. Second of all, I can lie in bed and listen to it rain or hail. There is the troubling matter of what happens if I do hear something decidedly unnatural coming from the roof, but that's a scenario that I've elected to deal with if and when it comes.

The most obvious downside is the heat. Yesterday it was scorching out, and I came back home hoping to have a little R&R in my apartment—which had had the blinds closed all day, so should have been relatively cool. I walked into the Heart of Darkness. The thick, hot air crowded me in my entrance way. Dim light filtered in from thick canopy of trees above me. Or maybe it came from my living room curtains. I could hear the squawking of my neighbour's parrot, and in the distance the heavy beating of drums.

All dramatics aside, being too hot where you're supposed to be cool sucks. I think the same can be said about being too cold when you're expecting to be warm. In that same vein, there's probably no worse feeling than overheating poolside, only to jump in and have the pool be too cold for comfort. Your pool should be refreshing, not freezing. Your options to keep it at a swimmable temperature, though, involve either a lot of money spent on a heater, or crossing your fingers and hoping for continuous sunshine to heat it up.

While Heatsavr doesn't physically warm your pool, it's going to make both pool heating options significantly more effective. Heatsavr saves up to 35% of your pool's heating costs by preventing heat-sapping evaporation. What that means is that your pool's heater won't have to work as hard to keep the temperature up, saving you money. If you don't have a heater, having that water stay in your pool will mean that it will naturally retain more heat.

Heatsavr is the kind of simple solution to a temperature problem that I only wish existed for my apartment. So far the only things that have helped so far are eating at least half a dozen freezies a day and parking myself in front of an oscillating fan.
