Drought - Is it Conflicting With Your Pool Opening?
Swimming Pool Staying Closed due to Drought?
The last thing any community wants to hear as the weather starts to warm up again for Spring and Summer is that their local public pool will not be opening for the season - due to water shortage caused by drought.
Sadly, this has been happening in various locations across the US for the past few years.
There are many other community pools that stay open, even in situations of extreme water duress, but they are faced with high prices and animosity from water conservationists.
Whether you are personally in a location experiencing drought conditions or not, it is painfully likely that there will be water usage legislation across the nation within the foreseeable future. Water rates are rising just about every where you turn, and there are few areas that continuously report excess water. Times are changing, and it is time that your facility prepares for the inevitable. Water conservation is currently a trend, but it may soon be mandatory.
According to the US Drought Monitor, only California and parts of Nevada are currently in a state of Extreme - Exceptional Water shortage. And California has had a few rainy days lately, encouraging some folks to believe the drought is over!

Unfortunately, the trouble with drought is that it doesn't usually go away for ever - it may move around, but there is always a risk of return.
I have been writing posts just like this for years, usually with different city references, but always the same sad tale. For example I shared a news article from Odessa TX back in 2012, that talks about how the City is restructuring their water usage at the public pools because of a record drought of 2012. You can read the story here [LINK] City adjusts water use for new restrictions.
So while drought may come and go in your area, once you implement water conservation measures to compensate, these will always be useful. Even if there is plenty of water to go around, why wouldn't you continue habits that conserve such a valuable resource, just in case?
Especially if those measures and habits are super simple and very inexpensive and will actually lead you to save money, as well as water. Why wouldn't you keep that around?
One very simple, very cost effective and very safe way to conserve water at your facility without disrupting any of your normal day-to-day activities or adding any extra work load is to start using a liquid solar pool cover like Heatsavr. It has been proven, by 3rd party testers, to reduce evaporation from a swimming pool by 30-50%.
You can install a set-and-forget metering system, and start conserving up to HALF of your water loss immediately. If you would like to find a supplier in your area, or request a trial supply of product for a incredibly low price, email [email protected] today. You can also call Toll Free (800) 661-3560
