Make Energy Management Your Priority - The Easy Way
by Monique Nelson on October 5th, 2010

Let me tell you a quick story, please.

A few years ago, the city of Thunder Bay decided it was time to make a change. They were tired of spending money uselessly and wasting resources that are rapidly becoming more and more precious.

A plan was enacted. The thinkers and doers in the City of Thunder Bay decided to take action. Make a change.

Energy management was to become a priority.

Many measures were implemented, not the least of which pertained to the Aquatics Facilities. Audits conducted in 2009 & 2010 were to determine whether their efforts were paying off.

And they were. Energy consumption was down a whopping 51%, according to the data collected.

How did the City of Thunder Bay accomplish this impressive feat?

They discovered that by managing the pool's evaporation, along with simple temperature control and lighting upgrades, significant savings could be found.

According to the Case Study, the liquid pool cover, Heatsavr, was responsible for a substantial portion of the savings.

“The City of Thunder Bay, Facilities Services Division has determined that the energy savings together with a reduction in humidity levels and space temperature has created an approximately 40% savings in natural gas consumption.”
